Herbal & Green Oils

Clear, aromatic, with great range: this family spans from cool mint through spicy thyme to bitter lovage – everyday classics alongside oils you rarely find on the shelf.

Herbal oils sit in the middle between the volatile citrus notes and the slow woody oils. They carry for several hours without becoming as heavy as resinous scents.

Herbal and green oils are the most versatile family in the range and, for many, the most practical. They smell of garden, kitchen and forest at once, are usually well tolerated and cover an enormous span from everyday classic to rarity. They are obtained mostly by steam distillation from leaves, herb or seeds.

Where herbal oils sit in the scent structure

They are the heart notes between the volatile citrus oils and the slow woody oils. That means: they are present within minutes and then carry for several hours without becoming as heavy and dominant as resinous scents. That's exactly what makes them the ideal link in a blend – a herbal note connects a zesty top note with a woody base without the transitions crumbling.

Which herbal oil for what?

  • Peppermint – cool and alert, the classic for the study.
  • Eucalyptus – clear and fresh, an everyday oil for bathroom and diffuser.
  • Rosemary – strong and herbaceous, popular in hair-care recipes.
  • Myrtle – mild and lightly herbal, underrated as a daytime scent.
  • Thyme – spicy and intense, to be dosed sparingly.

Ready-composed, you'll find this family in blends like Kräuterwind – a classic herbal infusion of eucalyptus, thyme, peppermint and rosemary.

Dosage and tolerance

Most herbal oils are uncomplicated. Exceptions are the intense ones like thyme, which belong in skin blends at low dosage. Peppermint and eucalyptus should not be used around the face on small children. For the diffuser, the usual 4 to 6 drops on 150–200 ml of water apply.
