Why a blend rather than single oils?

A single oil is predictable. Lavender smells of lavender, orange of orange – good when you know exactly what you want. The drawback: in a room, single oils can feel one-dimensional because they lack a counterpart.

A blend takes that work off your hands. It's built so its components evaporate at different rates: the light citrus notes are there immediately, herbal and floral parts follow after a few minutes, woody base notes carry for hours. That progression is exactly what distinguishes it from a synthetic fragrance oil that smells the same from the first minute to the last.

All 13 blends consist exclusively of pure essential oils. No alcohol, no carrier oil, no synthetic additives – only the plant extracts themselves, in a fixed ratio to one another.

Which blend suits what?

Bright and fresh. Frischegeist and Kräuterwind set herbal notes against citrus. Both work during the day and in the sauna.

Woody and grounding. Waldliebe places juniper and nutmeg alongside cedarwood; Walderwachen combines Swiss stone pine with eucalyptus and lemon. Both tolerate long run times.

Soft and warm. Sonnenruhe, of lavender, lemon and orange, is the obvious choice for the evening. Blütenzauber goes floral without turning heavy.

Activating. Kraftoase with grapefruit and ginger, and Lebensfreude, are dry-spiced and bright – the counterpoint to everything that works in the evening.

Seasonal. Winterwärme with cassia and clove, and Sternenglanz with star anise and cardamom, are the scents of the cold months.

Use and dosing

In a diffuser: 4 to 6 drops in 150 to 200 ml of water for an average room. Halve that for spiced blends such as Winterwärme. Interval operation beats continuous running – the nose adapts to a constant scent after about fifteen minutes.

As a sauna infusion: 5 to 10 drops per litre of water, never neat on the stones. Essential oils are highly flammable and can flash off. Always stir into water first.

On a scent stone: two to three drops on a porous stone or felt pad. Passive, very subtle, ideal for a bedside table, wardrobe or car.

On skin: only diluted. Three to nine drops in 10 ml of carrier oil, depending on use. Guide values are under Skincare & Massage.

How to recognise a good blend

Not every scent blend on the market delivers what it promises. Four things you can check:

1. Botanical designation. The label should list the Latin names of every plant included, for instance Lavandula angustifolia for true lavender.
2. 100 % pure. No synthetic fragrances, no extenders, no alcohol as filler.
3. Batch number. Every filling must be traceable.
4. Light protection. Amber glass shields the oils from UV radiation. Clear glass is a bad sign with essential oils.

Synthetic fragrance oils often smell more intense than pure ones – that isn't a mark of quality but a consequence of how they're built. They consist of a few very assertive molecules rather than the full spectrum of a plant.

Shelf life and storage

How long a blend keeps is determined by its most sensitive component. Citrus-heavy compositions such as Frischegeist or Sonnenruhe should be used within a year, because citrus oils oxidise fastest. Woody blends such as Waldliebe keep considerably longer.

Store cool, dark and tightly closed. A rancid or acrid smell indicates that oxidation has progressed – time to replace the bottle.

That the same blend smells slightly different from batch to batch is part of a natural product. Soil, weather and harvest timing of each individual plant feed into every distillation.
